Contractors not completing development works assigned to them within the prescribed time limit would now have to pay a penalty.
A circular to this effect was issued by District Collector Yashwant Kumar on Thursday. Kumar raised strong objections over the usual practice among contractors making a plea for extending the time limit for completion of works after they are unable to meet deadlines. The Collector stated that in future, not only a penalty would be imposed on the contractors but the district administration would also publicise the action taken in the media.
Moreover, Kumar directed the officials of the construction agencies that in case a penalty is not imposed on the contractors for not completing the work on time, a senior official of the agency would be informed in writing for taking action. Staff Reporter n Narayanpur
