Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Rajesh Munat said that after thorough inspection of the quality of construction, the over-bridge constructed from Shashtri Chowk to Agrasen Nagar was dedicated to the people.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, the Minister said that many questions were raised on the quality of the work of the over-bridge constructed from Shashtri Chowk to Agrasen Nagar.
He assured the residents of Akaltara that if any problem arises, as far as quality of work is concerned, money spent on the bridge would be recovered from the contractor and repair work would be carried out with that money. He said development works worth `237 crore were in progress in Akaltara.
The Minister said that Railway over-bridge construction in Janjgir and Champa is in full-swing which would be dedicated next year. The Government in the State has been making a network of roads state-wide and there would be no shortage of funds for development of roads, he said.
Presiding over the programme, Member of Parliament Kamla Devi Patle said that the much-awaited over-bridge was gifted to the residents.
local MlA Chunnilal Sahu said that a long pending demand has been fulfilled. “We had raised the issue of delay in construction of the over-bridge several times in the Chhattisgarh Assembly. The MlA handed over a memorandum to the Minister while demanding construction of some roads.
Meanwhile, Congress staged a demonstration near the programme venue alleging inferior quality of work done in the construction of the over-bridge.

After the programme, a delegation of Congress workers led by Manju Singh handed over a memorandum to the Minister at the Rest House demanding immediate ban on plying of heavy vehicles on the newly constructed over-bridge and an enquiry instituted to check the quality of work done in the construction.
