Staff Reporter

The Congress is hopeful of forming Governments in all the five States where the elections would be held next month, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said here on Friday. Responding to Chief Minister Raman Singh’s criticism of the Central Government on the rising onion prices, Digvijay said “let the Chief Minister first tell people how his wealth has grown five times IJ”

The polls to the Assemblies in Chhattisgarh and other four States of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram would be held between November 11 and December 4. The counting will be taken up on Dec 8. “The elections are being held in five States and the Congress will win in all,” he said while speaking to reporters at the airport. Singh was here to attend the 13 day death ritual of Padmini Shukla, the wife of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister late Shyama Charan Shukla.

Replying to a question, the Congress general secretary also challenged the Raman Singh Government to seek a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged coal block scam in the State. He also accused the BJP of encouraging communal riots for political gains. Singh visited the house of Kuldeep Juneja, the Congress candidate for Raipur-north for breakfast and held discussion with senior party leaders on the prospects of different candidates.

Singh was accompanied by leader of Opposition Rabindra Chaubey, and Congress candidates Kiranmayee Nayak and Vikash Upadhyaya. Singh enquired about the party candidate contesting against the BJP heavyweight Brijmohan Agrawal. The Congress candidates who were present sought Singh’s blessing in the election and requested him to campaign for them. Singh said it depends on the decision of the All Indian Congress committee (AICC). If it allows him to campaign in Chhattisgarh; he will be more than happy to do that. After holding discussions with party leaders, Singh later proceeded to Rajim to attend the  death ritual.
