The Opposition Congress has said that it has completed all preparations to  ‘gherao’ Chief Minister Raman Singh’s residence on Tuesday against the State Government’s ‘failure’ on all fronts.

There has been a spontaneous response to the call given by the party among workers, leaders and people who were affected by the ration card verification and the farmers, State Congress spokesman Sushil Anand Shukla said in a statement here on Monday.

A large number of people from different walks of life are expected to join the protest. State Congress president Bhupesh Baghel and former leader of Congress legislature Party Ravindra Choubey on Monday had a discussion with the party workers and leaders and issued necessary directions.

The Congress leader and workers would assemble at Congress Bhavan at 1 pm and proceed towards the residence of the Chief Minister while passing through Kotwali Chowk, Chikni Mandir, Jay Stambha Chowk, Sastri Chowk, State Election Office and Rajiv Gandhi Chowk.

In his message to the people a day earlier he had stated that it was for the first time in the history of the country that an elected Government within few months after coming into power has been working to lose the trust of the people.

It is rejecting ration cards of lakhs of people. It has increased the power tariff despite the fact that the generation cost per unit electricity stands at Rs 1.80, he said.

There has been a large-scale scams reported in Chhattisgarh Professional Examination Board (VYAPAM) which is bigger that what has been reported in Madhya Pradesh but the Government did not order any probe, Baghel alleged.

Similarly, the Railway fare has been increased by 14 per cent which has never happened in the past since country’s independence. Although there  has been no doctors or health care professionals in tribal area, a total of 150 seats in State’s medical colleges have been cut down, the State Congress president said.

Farmers have been distributed fake seeds and ineffective fertilizers  but the Government is not ordering a survey, he said. The Government has announced Rs 300 bonus to the farmers but at the time of payment it paid out only half of the amount, Baghel said.

The Government talks of paying out Rs 2,100 Minimum Support Price (MSP) for per quintal of paddy but in reality it hiked only Rs 50. The Congress gherao of the house of the Chief Minister is against all these anti-people decisions, he said. AICC secretary Bhakta Charan Das will be present during the protest, he said.
