A case has been registered against the husband of a ruling Congress MLA in Chhattisgarh’s Rajnandgaon district for threatening and abusing a driver of a mini truck that was carrying sand, police said on Thursday.
The man refuted the allegations and dubbed it “political vendetta”.
The case was registered against Chandu Sahu on Wednesday based on a complaint of Beersingh Uikey, a driver, Chhuriya Station House Officer (SHO) Nilesh Pandey said.
Sahu is the husband of Chhanni Sahu, the legislator from Khujji Assembly constituency.
The incident happened on December 4 when Uikey, who belongs to the tribal community, was headed to Chhuriya from Job village in the sand-laden truck, the officer said.
Uikey stopped the bus after its fuel got exhausted. Sahu, who was passing by, enquired about the consignment.
He allegedly abused the driver and threatened him, claiming he was engaged in illegal mining.
The driver possessed the royalty permit for transporting the sand, the police added.
Sahu was booked under IPC sections including 294 (obscene acts) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Dubbing the allegations as "political vendetta", Chandu Sahu claimed that the complaint was filed by the driver at the behest of the sand mafia.
