Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee will most probably announce the final list of candidates for the Assembly polls on October 25.
Instead of holding meeting of Central Election committee, chief of screening committee CP Joshi will finalise the list in consultation of key leaders of the state. However, Congress legislature party leader Ravindra Choubey will not be available for the purpose as he will go to Saja for filing his nominations.
Notably, in two instalments the CGPCC has so far announced names of 61 candidates while the name of candidates for 28 constituencies of Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur and Surguja districts are yet to be finalised.
These contentious seats are likely to witness some surprising changes. While Bhilai Mayor Nirmala Yadav is front runner for Vaishali Nagar seat in place of sitting MlA Bhajan Singh Nirankari, Pratima Chandrakar may be denied ticket in favour of her brother lakshman Chandrakar from Durg Rural seat. From Gunderdehi seat Anita Sahu or District panchayat member Alok Chandrakar will get the ticket.
Despite the stiff opposition by former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi Dr saurabh Singh and Nobel Verma are likely to be fielded from Akaltara and Chandrapur seats respectively. Former MlA Motilal Devangan may be picked up for Janjgir-Champa seat. Besides, Bharatpur-Sonhat, Manendragarh, Samri, lundra, Bhatgaon and some other seats are also contentious.
Decisions on Pandariya, Kawardha, Arang, Bilaigarh, are also pending as Mohammad Akbar is willing to contest Kawardha seat from where former MlA Yogiraj Singh is staking claim,Rudra Kumar Guru and Dr Shiv Daheriya are also willing to change their constituencies even when the Congress screening committee chief C P Joshi was dead against allowing changes in constituencies.
