Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel along with partymen staged a dharna at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) office here on Thursday demanding immediate FIR against Panchayat and Rural Development Minster Ajay Chandrakar in a complaint of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The Congressmen who staged the dharna were arrested and released later. Superintendent of Police (SP) Raipur OP Pal, talking to The Pioneer over phone, said that in all 78 party workers were arrested and released unconditionally.
A special court in Dhamtari had ordered the ACB to register an FIR against the Minister on a complaint of amassing property disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Chandrakar holds several key portfolios such as panchayat, rural development and tourism in the Raman Singh-led BJP Government which has come to power consecutively for the third time in Chhattisgarh.
Before sitting on dharna, Baghel, along with other party leaders, including Mayor Dr Kiran Mayee Nayak, former MlA Kuldip Juneja, Ramesh Warlyani, lekhram Sahu, Vikas Upadhyay, Iqbal Ahmed Rizvi, Satish Jain, Devendra Yadav, Mahendra Chhabra and Sushil Anand Shukla, had met Superintendent of Police (ACB) RP Sai, and handed him a copy of the order, demanding quick action in the case.
Not satisfied with the SP’s assurance that action will be taken after examining the matter, the Congress leaders began the dharna in his office shouting slogans against the Government. They were arrested and were taken to the central jail from where they were released.
later, talking to media persons, Baghel said that people who are demanding compliance of court order were being arrested instead of registering an FIR against the Minister.
