Congress, BJP workers clash at New Rajendra Nagar

SR

Congress and BJP workers entered into a fray over inauguration of Katora Talab-New Rajendra Nagar road inauguration on Sunday. About 8 party workers from both the parties sustained minor injuries in stone pelting incident. Police has to resort to light cane charge to deter both the party workers.

Station House Officer New Rajendra Nagar informed that around 1 am Satyanarayan Sharma former Minister and Congress party leader reached the newly constructed Katora Talab New Rajendra Nagar crossing accompanied with his son, Pankaj Sharma and other supporters. Satyanarayan Sharma was of view that the crossing has been constructed after several accidents claiming lives and after much pressing demands from residents of the area so some local resident should inaugurate the crossing. So an elderly member of Sindhi Community inaugurated the crossing.

Police further said, while the Sharma was returning from the inauguration site some BJP workers reached the spot and started to shout slogan against him and engage in dispute with the Congress party workers. Soon the row intensified and both party members started stone pelting and police had to intervene for controlling the situation.

Meanwhile FIR and counter FIR have been lodged by both the sides and Rajendra Nagar police has registered cases of act endangering life or personal safety of others, criminal intimidation, use of abusive language and an act done with common furtherance.

Notably the road connecting Katora Talab and New Rajendra Nagar is under construction but the politics to take the credit has been intensified between BJP and its arch rival Congress. Earlier an independent Corporator had tried to inaugurate the road but due to opposition from BJP and Congress party workers he could not succeed. Considering the dispute the district administration decided that it would inaugurate the bypass and road, however before date of inauguration is yet to be decided.
