Cong welcomes SC verdict over Jheeram massacre

Staff Reporter

The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s political advisor Vinod Verma on Tuesday said the Congress welcomes the Supreme Court's dismissal of the NIA plea against the state police’s probe into a larger conspiracy into the 2013 Jheeram Valley massacre by Naxalites.

The killing of 32 people including senior Congress leaders Nandkumar Patel, V.C. Shukla, Mahendra Karma and Uday Mudliyar was the biggest political massacre in India, Verma said.

The NIA investigated the massacre but not the larger conspiracy behind the incident and later moved against the Chhattisgarh Police’s probe in this regard, he added.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Raman Singh said on X: “Bhupesh Baghelji, the investigation of this matter should expose the conspiracy. But tell us, what will happen to those who had claimed to have evidence of the Jhiram massacre in their pockets before 2018? For five years, you took political advantage of this serious issue, but now there will be a judicial inquiry into this entire incident after the BJP will form government (in the state).”
