Congress will gherao the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha on March 16 in support of various issues related to farmers, labourers and common people, Chhattisgarh Congress president, Bhupesh Baghel said in a statement on Saturday.
Baghel who is leading the ‘Kisan Mazdoor Nyay Yatra’ started from Baloda Bazar on March 11, said that the Yatra will culminate with a gherao of Vidhan Sabha on March 16.
leading the yatra at Kharora on the outsikirts of Raipur on Saturday, Baghel said that resentment is brewing up among the people against the BJP Government due to its anti-people decisions.
“MGNREGS was a revolutionary step of the UPA Government in the interests of the labourers. But the intentions of NDA Government are very clear, it does not want it to be used for welfare of the poor people,’’ Baghel said.
He stated that Chhattisgarh Government has made announcement to provide 150 days work under MGNREGS but now closed the works under the scheme and now labourers are migrating looking for work while the payments are also pending.
“The State Government has also announced to give bonus to the farmers at the rate of Rs300 per quintal, minimum support price of Rs2100 and to purchase entire paddy from the farmers but it has failed to keep its promises,’’ Baghel said, adding, “the Government has not paid any heed to the request of people despite the issue being raised in the Assembly,’’.
CBI investigation in the Food and Civil Supplies Department corruption incident, irregularities in distribution of good grains and kerosene, establishment of NMDC headquarters in Bastar, work to labourers under MGNREGS etc are the issues highlighted under the Yatra. The yatra will culminate on March 16 with Vidhan sabha gherao, added Baghel.
