The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) has strongly objected on the Centre’s move of passing a Bill in the lok Sabha paving a way for construction of Polavaram dam project in Andhra Pradesh.

“The State Government is making all efforts for construction of the dam, which will directly detriment the interests of newly constituted Chhattisgarh and Telangana State” said CGPCC president, Bhupesh Baghel and ClP leader, TS Singh Deo in a joint press release. This dam across the Godavari River is under construction located in West Godavari District and East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh  and its reservoir spreads in parts of Chhattisgarh and Odisha states also.

The senior leaders added that forest and revenue land of Sukma district will be submerged along with the national highway connecting Jagdalpur and Hyderabad in this project.“While as many as 18 villages will be submerged in this project and thousands of tribal families will be displaced. It will also endanger the species of many trees, birds and wild animals” they claimed.

Both the leaders added that some villages of Odisha will also be submerged and therefore, Orissa and Telangana Government are also against this project while Chhattisgarh Government has completed the ‘formality’ by only submitting an affidavit in the Supreme Court in this issue.“Has the BJP-led Central Government has stopped listening to the plea of Bastar and Chhattisgarhi people after making their government’’, the Congress leaders added.
