The Congress party is expecting to significantly improve its lok Sabha seats tally in Chhattisgarh this time round, despite increased factionalism within the party in recent months. During the 2009 polls, the Congress party won the lone Korba seat while the rest of the 10 seats went to the BJP. Even in 2004 polls, the Congress managed to win just one seat.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, State party spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said that AICC President Sonia Gandhi, held one public meeting and Vice President Rahul Gandhi, held four public meetings in Chhattisgarh in the three-phased polls for the 11 seats that ended on April 24.
He said that State Congress President Bhupesh Baghel and leader of Opposition TS Singh Deo held close to 50 public meetings in the State that boosted party’s prospects. ‘There was a better poll management this time round and the party expects to win more seats’, Trivedi claimed.
He said that worker conventions were held in support of 10 lok Sabha candidates at the booth level. Trivedi said that former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi and former leader of Opposition Ravindra Choubey also held public meetings.
