Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State general secretary and spokesperson Shivratan Sharma on Thursday said that the Congress party, while sensing defeat at the hustings, is now making baseless allegations on the BJP that it is trying to lure as well as intimidate Government employees to use their postal ballot in favour of the ruling party.
In a statement here, Sharma said that the Congress party, while making such a baseless statement, has caused an insult to the government employees while shaking their confidence. He said that if the Congress leaders have any proof of the BJP trying to intimidate or lure the Government employees into voting for the party while using their postal ballot why they are stopping short of approaching the Election Commission with their complaint.
Some days back, the State Congress president Dr Charan Das Mahant levelled allegations in Rajnandgaon that Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh could order firing on the Congress workers on the face of a defeat. In a similar vein Congress national general secretary Bhakt Charan Das had demanded counting of votes for Bastar region earlier than scheduled, Sharma said.
Das had also expressed apprehensions that the BJP may tamper with the EVMs kept in the strong rooms. The fact remains that para military force personnel had been deployed for the security of EVMs in the strong rooms, he said. Similarly, the demand of Dr Charan Das Mahant in a letter to the Election Commission that the counting of votes be completed by dusk as the BJP may try to manipulate counting of votes is laughable, he said.
Sharma said that it is a standard practice that the counting of votes is completed in any poll before sunset and there is no question of votes being counted thereafter. The people’s verdict would be out on December 8 which would be in the form of a recognition of the work done by the BJP Government in the State, he said.
