Demanding compensation and job, the villagers affected by deep layering process (mining) under South Eastern Coalfields limited (SECl) in Korba Area, have submitted a memorandum to the collector.
On Thursday, the villagers led by Communist Party of India (Marxist) District Committee member Prashant Jha, reached the Collectorate to convey their demand before the administration. They said that landslides due to deep layering process in the underground mines in the area have devastated their farm land and crop.
“The affected farmers have been demanding compensation against their damaged crops, levelling of land etc. However, the SECl and the district administration did not pay any heed to their demands,” alleged Jha.
The villagers demanded that a report on compensation against the damaged crops in the fiscal years 2010-2011 to 2012-2013, 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 of Surakachhar farmers should be prepared and they should be paid compensation accordingly. Meanwhile, farmers of Madavdhoda, Rohini, Singhali, Dhapdhap, Bagdeva demanded compensation and job.
According to the villagers, either their land should be returned by making it fertile as it was earlier or they should be given benefits under the rehabilitation policy by legally acquiring their land.
