Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday e-transferred Rs 1,522 crores to the bank accounts of about 21 lakh farmers and said Chhattisgarh has embraced former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's vision to banish poverty.

Addressing a function here to commemorate Gandhi on his birth anniversary, Baghel said the state government had started many welfare programmes and schemes for all sections of the society.

The money transfer to 21 lakh farmers took place as a second instalment under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. Apart from this, Rs 3.49 crores were made to cattle farmers, Gauthan owners and Self-Help Groups under Rajiv Gandhi Godhan Nyay Yojna.

An official communiqué said the government has expanded the scope of this scheme from current Kharif season 2021 to include some other Kharif crops other than paddy. The Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Bhoomheen Krishi Mazdoor Nyay Yojana is also being started to provide financial help to the landless agricultural workers of rural areas. Under this scheme, Rs 6,000 will be given annually to families which do not have agricultural land and are associated with MNREGA.

The Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana has rejuvenated the farm sector in the state, the statement said.
