Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday directed the state water resources department to release water from reservoirs to fill village ponds, keeping in view of coming summer months and to ensure that villagers have access to water for their daily use.
With the arrival of summer, the village ponds dry up causing acute water shortages in villages, every year.
The CM has directed the state water resources department, to release water for reservoirs in the state as the temperature is increasing every day, and there is a shortage of water in the ponds for daily use in many rural areas.
Like every year, the process of releasing water from reservoirs to ponds should be started immediately to overcome the problem in rural areas, he said.
The CM directed the department officials that special care should also be taken to ensure there is no wastage of water during the summer months.
He has asked officials to make necessary arrangements to fill ponds used for irrigation by following all precautions and safety instructions, including social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus, keeping in mind the current circumstances during the lockdown.
