Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday expressed deep condolence over death of Darbha Janpad Panchayat member Panduram who was abducted by Naxals and his body was found later in insurgency-hit Bastar district.

Strongly condemning the incident, Chief Minister Raman Singh has said that it was a cowardly act. Panduram used to work with full dedication for development of villages and people in his region. He was an active and hard working public representative, the Chief Minister said in his condolence message adding, this was anti-democratic act which has no place in society.

Body of Panduram (42), Darbha Janpad Panchayat member was found at Chingur Nullah in Tulsi Dongri area under Darbha police station limits on Thursday evening, Station House Officer, Darbha, Durgesh Sharma informed.

According to the SHO, Panduram was abducted along with his assistant Sanat Sethiya on April 21 from his native place Koleng, by a group of armed cadres, however, Sethiya was later released on Thursday. Police after receiving complaint from Panduram’s family members about his absence swung into action and launched efforts to trace Janpad Panchayat member. His body was found besides Chingur nullah, near his native place, the SHO added.

Multiple grievous injuries were spotted on his body which indicates that he was beaten to death. However after getting post mortem report we would be able to tell exact reason behind death, the SHO added.

Naxals, according to the police, were enraged over Panduram after he contested in Janpad Panchayat election despite warnings issued by Maoists not to participate in elections. Besides, his closeness with the administration as he was concerned with the development of the region, proved fatal for him, the SHO opined.
