A man was critically injured in a blast triggered by Naxals in the insurgency-riddled Sukma district, police said here on Saturday.

“One eye and a hand of Vetti Ballu who was former Sarpanch of Polampalli were permanently damaged in the blast that occurred at Polampalli village around 9.30 am,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukma, IKS Elesela said.

The man after spotting some Naxal pamphlets lying in the village had tried to lift it. Naxals had placed a bomb under the pamphlets which was attached to pamphlets with some wire, the SP said, while adding that as Vetti lifted the pamphlets the bomb exploded thereby critically injuring him.

After the incident, he was administered first aid treatment and was airlifted to Jagdalpur from where Vetti has been referred to Raipur for better treatment, the SP informed.
