Staff Reporter

During the past 10 to 15 years, Indian society has undergone polarization and the freedom of expression has been under threat since then, said distinguished Bollywood Director Ketan Mehta here on Sunday.

Mehta was in Raipur to participate in the second Raipur International Film Festival (RIFF).

“We need to open up our mind and liberate it. Hopefully, the process has just started” Mehta told reporters while replying to a query.

Mehta who is known for his distinguished directional skill in movies like Mirch Masala (1987), Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Manjhi: The Mountain Man (2015) also spoke about censorship issue.

“It is strange that we can allow an 18-year-old man to choose his king then why not he is free to choose what he wants to see,” Mehta said adding that we live in digital 'pen drive era' where everything is freely available on the internet.

Appreciating the RIFF he said that film festivals are generating the cinematic culture.

“Now a new generation of the audience is coming up and Cinema is becoming a ‘new language’, he opined.
