Staff Reporter

Chitrakote Mahotsava concluded here on Saturday amid poor response from local representatives who largely kept away from the event even though amount worth lakhs of rupees were spent by the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) to organize the event at massive level.

Government is making all efforts to highlight famous waterfall of the region at Chitrakot, but the Mahotsava organised there in a bid to promote its tourism received apathy from the responsible representatives of the region.

Chhattisgarh Minister for Tribal Welfare and School Education Kedar Kashyap was supposed to inaugurate the function but he reportedly returned from the Mahotsava site due to poor public turnout.

Chhattisgarh Tourism Board Chairman, Santosh Bafna too was absent in the inaugural and concluding function. It was expected that as he was a local public representative and as he had also funded for the function, he would be present at the function to make it successful.

The Chitrakote Falls is located in Bastar district some 38 km from district headquarters Jagdalpur town. It spreads over three braids during the low flow season, is a single sheet of flow over a free fall of about 30 metres (98 ft) forming a horseshoe shaped gorge. However, during the monsoon season, when the Indravati River is in floods, the falls cover the entire stretch of the horseshoe from the left to the right bank covering a width of about 300 metres (980 ft).
