Chhattisgarh to provide free sand for PMAY, Panchayats

Staff Reporter

The Chhattisgarh government will provide free of cost sand for construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

This was announced by Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary in the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.

Choudhary also said sand would also be provided free to Panchayat bodies for construction work.

He said this while replying to a query on illegal sand mining raised by BJP legislator Dharamjeet Singh.

Singh alleged that illegal sand mining was going on across the state and said he will tender his resignation if less than 200 mining vehicles are found in the sand pits along rivers.

He charged that the erstwhile Bhupesh Baghel government was involved in corruption in sand mining and there was a need to again hand over the mines to Panchayat bodies.

Regarding action on sand mafia, Singh said lack of heavy fines encouraged the mafia.

He demanded consistent and stern action against the sand mafia. Choudhary assured him of stern action.
