The Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch is expected to cut into both Congress and BJP vote banks with its candidates being fielded from 4 of the 12 Assembly constituencies in Bastar region of the State.
The Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch has opened a ‘third front’ in Chhattisgarh by forging alliance with a string of regional parties including the Communist Party of India (CPI) to take on the two national level parties in the Assembly polls.
The Manch workers had been campaigning aggresively in Bastar with a bid to garner maximum tribal votes while taking up local issues in the constituencies in which it is fielding its candidates.
“We are fielding candidates from Antagarh, Bhanupr-atappur, Kanker and Jagdalpur Assembly seats in Bastar region,” Chhattisgarh Swabhiman Manch State General Secretary Vishnu Baghel told The Pioneer.
He said that the Manch had already released its first list of finalised candidates with 30 names for the 50 seats it had decided to contest out of 90 Assembly seats in Chhattisgarh. “We are in the process of finalising the rest of the 20 names which would be announced shortly,” he said.
