The Chhattisgarh High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to former Director of Medical Education Dr Saheb Lal Adile, accused of raping a 33-year-old woman on the pretext of giving her a government job in 2018.

A bench of Justice Arvind Singh Chandel granted the anticipatory bail to Dr Adile, said the petitioner’s counsel Kishore Bhaduri.

The counsel argued that the incident took place in January 2018 but was reported in August 2020.

In September, a fast track in Raipur had rejected his anticipatory bail plea.

Raipur’s women police station booked Dr Adile in August after the rape complaint was lodged by the woman from Kanker district who works as a counsellor at the state-run Dau Kalyan Singh (DKS) Multi Speciality Hospital.

The victim's statement was recorded and Dr Adile was booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the FIR, the accused befriended the woman when he was the Dean of the Raigarh Medical College in 2017.

He allegedly sexually exploited her on the pretext of providing her a job.

After Dr Adile’s retirement on March 30, 2020, the state government gave him extension on contractual basis. As the incident came to light, Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo removed him from his post.
