C'garh BJP all set to fall short of membership target

Staff Reporter

Despite all efforts and a massive campaign across the State, the ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh is all set to fall short of its target to recruit 50 lakh new members by March 31. According to party sources, BJP in Chhattisgarh has so far recruited a little over 30 lakh members and it is impossible to add another two million fresh members to achieve the target. The party has launched a series of campaigns in all the blocks and tehsils to meet the target but party has failed to get desired response in interiors mainly of vast northern Surguja area as well as of southern Bastar region.

As per procedure, the membership campaign is online and any interested person can give a missed call to become member of the saffron party. Since mobile towers have not been installed in tribal and remote areas, the target could not be achieved. However, the target will be achieved through manual process by the workers, a senior member of the party said.

The status of BJP after the membership drive will be disclosed by national president Amit Shah during party’s meeting in Bangalore on April 2. BJP State president Dharamlal Kaushik and general secretary (organisation) Rampratap Singh will participate in the meeting, sources informed. Meanwhile, sources added that the membership drive is likely to be extended for another 15 days. Even the party’s national secretary Arun Singh had given indications during his recent visit to Raipur.

Party sources stated that BJP has become the largest political party of the world as the party’s membership crossed 8.60 crores marks nationwide on Saturday. It has surpassed the Communist Party of China with a membership of 8.50 crores to become largest party of the world.  However, the figure was not confirmed by any office-bearer of the party.
