Security has been tightened across Chhattisgarh, mainly in insurgency-riddled sprawling Bastar region in the wake of intelligence inputs that suggested Maoist militants could trigger blasts in remote forested areas to disrupt Republic Day functions, police officials said on Wednesday.

Thousands of police and para-military troopers have been relocated in Bastar to boost security in and around government establishments as Maoists have track record of targeting government assets in Bastar on Republic Day.

Bastar which is made up of seven districts and is spread out in about 40,000 sq km areas, has been a den of Maoists since late 1980s and the region has witnessed a string of deadly blasts but in past two years the incidents of leftist violence have subsidised heavily.
