Centre provided materials not used against Covid: Soni

Staff Reporter

Raipur MP and BJP state Vice President Sunil Soni on Monday accused the Chhattisgarh government of not fully utilizing all the materials and equipment provided by the Centre to fight Covid-19.

Soni told the media that the Central government had allocated Rs 123 crores to fight Covid in the state in two instalments of Rs 56 crores and Rs 67 crores.

The Centre also      provided 447,000 N-95 masks, 172,000 PPE kits, 21 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets and 248  ventilators.

The state government has till now installed only 18 ventilators, Soni said.

Similarly, 77,952 RNA testing kits and 198,100 Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RTPCR) kits was also made available.

The Central government has provided what is necessary. But now the entire government, including the Chief Minister, has gone on quarantine and left the public to pay the price of the virus.

The situation is such that AIIMS does not has space now and there is no arrangement in government hosptals, forcing people to approach private hospitals where hefty amounts are being charged as the fees have not been fixed.

Such a situation has arisen as there is no      adequate arrangement to treat Covid-19, he added.

Soni said that instead of pointing fingers at the Central government, the Congress leaders and the state government should look within to know what is wrong and then take necessary steps to improvise to halt the spike in Covid-19 cases.
