Staff Reporter

In view of the scorching heat, the Election Commission of India has cancelled its earlier instructions regarding erection of election canopy (tents) near polling booths by the candidates.

Now, a candidate can put up election tents  of maximum 10x10ft size at a distance of 200 metres from the polling booth. Its expenses will be added to the election expenditure of the candidate concerned. Rest of the instructions issued by the election commission in this regard earlier would remain as it is.

Because of the increasing heat, candidates had applied to the election commission for permission to erect canopy near polling booths. In view of the requests of the candidates, the EC has relaxed the earlier issued instructions.  Earlier, commission had issued instructions providing permission to candidates for making seating arrangements for only two persons by erecting umbrella, tarpaulin, clothe, or canopy. The commission had instructed to keep such canopy open from all sides.
