To cover up the failure to protect the interests of and ensure justice to farmers, incidents of suicides and deaths of farmers are being covered up by the Chhattisgarh government, former Minister and BJP leader Kedar Kashyap said on Thursday.
Kashyap said in a statement that farmers committing suicide are being branded mentally unstable or depressed or addicts. Even the recent death of a farmer in Rajnandgaon was blamed on illness. This is to cover up the issues faced by the farmers.
Citing the Kondagaon incident of farmer’s suicide, Kashyap said later the state government issued an order to rectify errors in the land holding area of the farmers, thus taking a U-turn on its earlier stand.
The BJP leader said the family of the farmer who commits suicide is left in the lurch. The government should take stern action against the officials responsible for creating such situations. Relief should be extended to the family of deceased farmers, he said.
