Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has announced a major rebate in taxes for bus operators for June, providing a relief of Rs 5 crore.

This is seen as a major concession to the bus operators for a third consecutive month since April, an official communication said, and comes amid the raging Covid-19 pandemic.

According to official information, tax rebates have been provided for April and May too.

"The decision of the government will provide a relief of Rs 5 crore to the bus operators who are facing liquidity crunch during the lockdown period," a government official said.

The Chief Minister has asked the Transport Department not to charge advance taxes from bus owners for the two months when buses were not in service, officials said.

Private operators provide bus services in Chhattisgarh as there is no government bus transport system.
