C’garh to eliminate malaria by 2030

Staff Reporter

Ahead of the World Mosquito Day on August 20, the Chhattisgarh          government has vowed to eliminate malaria by 2030.

A communication from the Health Department     said Chhattisgarh is           now    one of five Indian states which continue to    register high endemicity for malaria.

But Chhattisgarh has made significant progress in reducing its burden of   malaria, registering year-on-year decrease in cases and achieving almost 79 percent reduction in cases from 2017 to 2021, it said.

Due to its steady success, the state has now moved from class 3 to class 2 state in malaria eradication.

In Chhattisgarh, efforts are underway to                    systematically reduce the burden of malaria and move towards elimination.

The state’s ‘Malaria Mukt Chhattisgarh Abhiyaan’ is one such intervention that engages health workers to reduce malarial incidence and enhance access to       medicines and diagnostic services.

Endemic states with   fragile health infrastructure and accessibility challenges, particularly post Covid-19, still bear the heaviest burden of malaria in the country.
