Chhattisgarh School Education and Tribes Welfare Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam on Wednesday met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin M. Gadkari in New Delhi and sought National Highway status for the Ambikapur-Varanasi road.

Tekam submitted a survey report which mentions that the Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh)-Dhanwar-Banaras (Uttar Pradesh) route in Chhattisgarh is 110.60 km long. This route connects Surguja, Surajpur and Balrampur districts of Chhattisgarh with Uttar Pradesh.

Tekam said this route was of great importance because it directly connects Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

This route is also the busiest from a commercial point of view.  Vegetables, minerals, mineral produce and various goods are transported from Chhattisgarh to Uttar Pradesh through this route.

There are many small and big bridges, culverts, ghats and dangerous turns in this route. Therefore, it was important to make the Ambikapur-Dhanwar-Banaras route a national highway, he said.
