The first women police band of Chhattisgarh has been created in the Maoist violence-hit Bastar region.
The newly constituted band recently performed before Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel during his Bastar and Dantewada visit. Baghel highly praised the performance, a press release from police in Bastar said.
In Dantewada, a special all woman commando unit of Chhattisgarh Police ‘Danteshwari Ladake’ has already been deployed against Naxalites.
“Women commandos of Bastar police have shown exemplary courage during anti-Maoist operations, in crime investigation and other law and order matters,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar) Sundarraj P said.
"We wanted our women colleagues to perform better on the field without any discrimination. Gender equality will be propagated within the force and formation of Chhattisgarh’s first women police band is another step in this direction," he said.
The women band is currently playing 12 patriotic songs brilliantly matching their male counterparts.
Earlier the bands used to play on special occasions like passing out parades, but now it has become a new step towards creating gender equality, the officer added.
Such gender sensitive initiative will help create progressive and gender discrimination free society, he said.
