The Health and Family Welfare Department in Chhattisgarh on Monday commenced an extensive drive for investigation and awareness campaign on mosquito-borne diseases.

Raipur District Malaria Officer Dr. Vimal Kishore Rai said: “For prevention, along with various control and preventive activities, awareness campaigns are being run in the general public to eliminate the breeding sites of mosquitoes.”

He said people are being urged that on Sundays, each household should empty the pot trays, coolers, fridges and water tanks. These should be then dried to destroy the mosquito eggs and larvae.

Along with it, people are being told not let rain water collect in old tyres, pots and other structures in the    premises of the houses. Dengue mosquito breeds only in clean water.

He said: “On Monday, a team visited houses at Ramnagar, Bharat Nagar and Chhota Ramnagar areas in Raipur. We emptied coolers filled with water and identified patients with fever. They were referred to the nearest health centres.”
