Industrial activities in Chhattisgarh have picked up pace amid the nationwide end of Covid-19 induced lockdown and it has attracted an investment of Rs 550 crore in new industrial units from March 2020 to June 2020, the government announced on Tuesday.

Employment opportunities have surged and 80 percent of the industrial units in the state have become operational while taking precautions vis-a-vis Covid infection, an official statement said.

During this period, 27 lakh metric tonnes of iron was produced in the state, the statement said.

After the Covid crisis struck, a foolproof strategy to conduct industrial activities during the lockdown was chalked out as per the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the communiqué said.

Now with the beginning of unlock, production has increased.

Chhattisgarh has become the first state among its neighbours to start operation of industrial units, the statement said.

During the lockdown, the state’s major industries such as Bhilai Steel Plant, Balco and South Eastern Coal Field Mines were operational in a limited capacity.

The industrial units which were shut due to the pandemic have also started functioning.
