Inter-state coordination can help Chhattisgarh and Odisha to tackle the problems of Naxalism as well as drug abuse and trafficking, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay Kumar said on Tuesday.

He was addressing a meeting between Chhattisgarh and Odisha held through video conferencing.

Credited Chhattisgarh DGP Ashok Juneja for taking the initiative for the meeting, Kumar said discussions can lead to a solution on these issues. "Coordinated working between both states can help,” he said.

Emphasizing intelligence sharing, joint operations and joint interrogation, Juneja said continuous action is being taken against Naxalites in Bastar range.

Many Naxalites have been killed by security forces on the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border. Better coordination can tackle the menace, he said.

He said that there are many remote areas in the border of both the states where mobile towers will soon be installed to enhance communication facilities.

The police officials also discussed illegal smuggling of drugs between the two states.

Juneja pointed out that most of the smuggling, mainly of cannabis (ganja), is done from Odisha to Chhattisgarh. He suggested setting up closed circuit televisions (CCTV) at checkposts in all the border districts
