The Raipur Agricultural Marketing Yard had currently been witnessing a bumper arrival of the rabi season paddy crop.
An estimated 8,000 to 10,000 bags of paddy had been arriving in the yard every day, a mandi official stated. The grain merchants say that the paddy crop arrival would continue for another 8 to 10 days before the onset of the monsoons.
The harvesting work for the paddy crop is in its last leg and the farmers had been rushing the harvested crop to the mandis. Apart from the Raipur district, their counterparts in Dhamtari had also been bringing their crops to the mandi in the city.
The farmers in the mandi inform that there is a higher arrival of ‘IR-36’ and ‘1,010’ variety of paddy in Raipur for which they are getting a price of Rs 1075 to Rs 1210 per quintal.
Another mandi official said that at the beginning of the Rabi season about 1,000 to 2,000 bags of paddy was being received. There had been a sudden surge in the arrival of paddy during the past one week, he said.
There are other varieties of paddy also arriving in the mandi albeit in lesser numbers. The mandi had been trying to keep the momentum of the higher arrival of paddy by offering good rates to the farmers, the official added.
