Shop communication forum was held recently for Blast furnace (BF) and SGP department at the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and the forums mainly focussed on Steel Authority of India limited (SAIl) turnaround, financial performance of SAIl, facilitation to suggestors and recognition to Suggestion Champions. SR Suryawanshi, GM (BF) chaired the programme. Sectional incharges and 39 employees partcipated in the programme.
Safety being the foremost focus while working in plant, the session was started by H M Dongre, DSO- BF and Sangam lal, DSO(SGP) by providing information on safety norms, cause of accidents along with safety statistics for BFs and he also explained the importance of behavioural safety. Then detailed inputs were given on the current scenario in steel industry, SAIl’s position in the global market, the financial status of SAIl and Bhilai Steel plant in terms of profit and operating expenses, thurst areas and expectations from the employees.
later Prateek Pandey, junior manager (BF) shared information about performance of BFs, techno-economics of furnaces, status of furnace performance aganist the ABP target.
US Rao, DGM (Elect) addressed the forum about the importance of suggestion scheme and how the deparment undertakes a lot of in house modifications, upgradations, system improvements and other appreciable creative and innovative activities, which helps in improving production, productivity, eliminating unsafe practices and creating a better working environment in the department.
He also announced that in order to encourage employees to participate in suggestion scheme Suggestion Champion will be nominated for different areas of the department.
Department has nominated 11 executives as Suggestion Champions to ensure that a culture of creativity is nurtured and maintained.
Such activities are timely captured and rewarded through Suggestion Scheme. Their role is to motivate the employees to participate in the scheme, generate quality suggestions and make sure that any new/in-house development done during planned/unplanned repairs are captured and documented.
SR Suryawanshi, (GM- Blast Furance) addressed the forum by exhorting the participants to focus on safety both at work place and beyond.
He also said that how our innovative suggestors have been recognised at plant and national level for their creative and out-of-the-box ideas which were implemented at the shop floor.
He addressed the champions to involve employees in this creative endeavor. It is important that new ideas are properly captured, documented and timely rewarded.He stressed on the importance of optimum manpower utilisation and continuous learning process.
