lack of industries in State is affecting the morale and confidence of the students, said General Secretary of Association of Indian Universities DS Chouhan talking to The Pioneer in the conference of university vice chancellors.

“With industries, comes culture which effects quality of education in significant ways. If there are industries within accessible limits, students have the opportunity to take a closer look at their functioning and learn a lot,” he said.

On changing behaviour pattern of the students, Chouhan said, distractions among students have risen considerably in the past decade and have affected their concentration and grasping abilities. “There were fewer indulgences when we were growing up but technology has deeper penetration in present times.”

Chouhan was part of the two-day conference of universities vice chancellors held in the city which concluded on Thursday at a private hotel. Forty chancellors from central zone of the state had come to the city on the 50th anniversary year of Pt Ravishankar Shukla University.

Talking about the disparity between educational institutes in rural and urban areas, Chouhan said that apart from one’s ability and hard work, quality of ‘production process’ plays a very important role in grooming students. “We are creating an urban island of education. This structure is thus denying better opportunities to students in rural areas of the country,” he said.

Chouhan emphasises on the need of larger grants and funds from the Government to bring about better facilities for students.
