BJP violated model code of conduct, claims Congress

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) on Friday urged Chhattisgarh State Election Commission (CSEC) to lodge a case of violation of model code of conduct against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State.

CGPCC spokespersons, Mahendra Chhabda and Sushil Anand Shukla submitted a written complaint to CSEC Commissioner while demanding to take action against the BJP for erecting gates, posters, and banners across the city to welcome the party’s National President Amit Shah. The senior Congress leaders, in their complaint to the CSEC, said the model code of conduct has been enforced ahead for the civic bodies’ polls scheduled on December 29 and 31, this year.

“During this period, BJP erected welcome gates by digging roads and put banners and posters at electric poles and at government lands, to greet Shah on his maiden visit after becoming the party Supremo to boost ongoing membership drive, which is not only violation of model code of conduct but also is a case of property defacement”, they alleged.

Both the Congress leaders also urged the Commissioner to cancel BJP’s recognition for ‘deliberately’ violating model code of conduct.
