Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said if demands of sugarcane farmers of Kawardha are not met, BJP MLAs would stage a-day long hunger strike in their support.

He said this while addressing the concluding session of two-day special session to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in the state assembly on Thursday.

Countering the points raised by Chief Minister in his address on the day-one, Kaushik asked which party had actually deviated most from the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in last 60 years by imposing emergency, maximum use of Article 365, 1984 Sikh riots, imposing 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and others.

He said Mahatma Gandhi stood for integrated development of villages by making them self sufficient.

He said Chief Minister should first take a decision during this special session to implement prohibition in the state. He said BJP speaks of cultural nationalism and promoting all religion.

Raising issue of farmers, he they were leading peaceful agitation. Government should initiate release of their payment.

Earlier, former Chief Minister Raman Singh said state government has re-launched the schemes which were run by previous government headed by him.

“Instead of bringing fresh new scheme, the government has given new cover to old scheme by just extending it across the state,” he said.
