Amid political slugfest over farmers’ paddy procurement at Rs 2500 per quintal, Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP on Sunday staged ‘Halla Bol’ demonstration at various paddy procurement centers across the state.
A demonstration at Nagpura procurement centre on the outskirts of capital city, was led by former chief minister Raman Singh.
Expressing resentment that Congress government in state was not procuring paddy at Rs 2500 per quintal which was promised by it earlier, Singh accused the state government of failing to deliver the promises made to farmers of the state.
Singh who was chief minister for 15 years, lashed out at Baghel government for delaying the procurement for a month. Rs Rs Every year the paddy procurement commences on November 1 and it is for the first time it has been delayed for a month,’’ he remarked “There is tremendous resentment among the state populace over policies of Baghel government,’’ he stated.
Raman said instead of keeping the promise which the Congress leaders made with ‘Gangajal’, the Congress government is passing the buck to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rs Rs This is inappropriate, the people of state will soon give a befitting reply to them,’’ he said.
Farmers’ leader and former Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu, former MLA Navin Markandey also participated with Raman in the protest.
