Chief Minister Raman Singh claimed on Thursday that BJP was all set to retain Government in the mineral-rich State with a stunning figure of Assembly seats for counting to be held on Sunday.
“The BJP will stun everyone on December 8 with the highest ever figure in the 90-member House; I disagree with the exit poll outcomes though all have predicted BJP victory in Chhattisgarh either marginally of heavily,” Singh told newsmen at airport here on his arrival from New Delhi.
Singh, who is heading the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh since December 2003, said, “People will get stunned on December 8 when the EVMs start coughing up secrets in favour of the BJP.”
Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday held meeting with senior Congress leaders of Chhattisgarh in New Delhi to analyse post election scenario in the State. He congratulated the leaders for fighting the election battle unitedly and hoped that the Congress will form the Government in the State.
Chhattisgarh Congress leaders who met Gandhi include Congress national treasurer Motilal Vora, state Congress chief and union minister of state Charan Das Mahant, leader of opposition Ravindra Choubey, former chief minister Ajit Jogi, former minister Bhupesh Baghel, TS Singh Deo and Satyanarayan Sharma.
The Congress leaders expressed their confidence that the election climate had been conducive for the party and it will win majority of its own.
The State Congress leaders claimed that the party is expected to secure better position in area like Bastar and Sarguja where it had fared poorly in the last election. The leaders also apprised Gandhi about the campaigning the party undertaken during the election. They also admitted that for the first time free and fare election took place in the Maoist infested Bastar region which has 12 seats.
