Staff Reporter

Fearing physical attacks, Chhattisgarh BJP has sought security cover for its party workers at counting venues on May 23-- the day counting of votes cast in the just concluded elections for the state’s 11 Lok Sabha seats will take place.

BJP State coordinator, Election Legal Department, Naresh Chandra Gupta gave a representation to Chief Electoral Officer’s office on Tuesday seeking protection for the party     workers.

The letter is addressed to Chief Election Commissioner, New Delhi, Chief Electoral Officer Chhattisgarh and all District Electoral Officers.

It alleges that the officials of        electoral offices are working under the pressure of Indian National Congress, due to which no action has been initiated on complaints lodged by the BJP.

The BJP also urged that “impartial counting observers” be appointed at all the counting centres so to ensure free and fair counting. At all the counting centres, appropriate security measures should be ensured through Central Forces (CRPF and others), the party urged.

The party’s letter further stated that in case any party worker is harmed, the in-charge officer will be held responsible for it.
