A BJP leader was shot at by ultras in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, police said. “BJYM district president Murlikrishna Naidu was shot at by insurgents at Bhairamgarh locality during evening hours.

Two unidentified assailants, most probably the cadres of the banned terror outfit Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) pumped three bullets in the body of Naidu,” Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Indira Kalyan Elesela told The Pioneer, adding that the victim was close associate of Chhattisgarh’s Forest Minister Mahesh Gagda.

In the attack, Naidu has suffered bullet injuries in chest, shoulder and lower part of the body, said ASP Elesela.

Police took Naidu to a nearby hospital at Bhairamgarh and later shifted him to Jagdalpur, added ASP Elesela. Police have launched an intense search operation in the region to track down the attackers.
