The BJP leaders and workers in the State are happy with the appointment of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as BJP poll campaign committee chairman. They feel that the party will get its benefit in the Parliament and Assembly elections. On getting the information of Modi’s appointment, the BJP leaders and workers gathered at Ekatma Parisar and celebrated it by bursting firecrackers.

Modi is known for his Hindutva politics in BJP, but Hindutva and communalism had never been poll planks in Chhattisgarh. Notwithstanding, the BJP leaders in the State feel that the party would get benefit from Modi’s appointment as BJP poll campaign committee chairman. Modi had been in-charge of State BJP.

State spokesman Sreechand Sundarani says that the party will get benefits from Modi’s image in the Assembly and Parliament elections. Modi’s Gujarat development model would have effect on the positive voters, he added.

Expressing his happiness on the appointment of Modi as BJP poll campaign committee chairman, State Warehousing Corporation chairman, Ashok Bajaj said that the step taken by the BJP was an indication of cyclone for the Congress. He hoped that the BJP would get unexpected success in the Mission 2013 and 2014 under the leadership of

Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, the State Congress media department chief Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said, with the appointment of Narendra Modi as poll campaign committee chairman, the BJP would come to its old position, which it was holding after the 1984 parliament election. In that election the BJP had got only 2 seats, he added.

He said that Modi is not acceptable to many NDA and BJP leaders. His work style does not correspond with equality and religious harmony.

However, the State committee member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sanjay Parathe said that with the appointment of Narendra Modi as poll campaign committee chairman there would have no effect in Chhattisgarh. He said that the situation in Gujarat and Chhattisgarh was different. Chhattisgarh has been the citadel of communal harmony, he added.
