BJP flays Digvijay, Upasane says Cong mother of ills

Staff Reporter

Taking exception to the charges of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Chhattisgarh has had truck with Maoist insurgents, State BJP denounced Digvijay Singh for levelling unfounded charges and demanded that he should take back them.

Addressing a press conference at Ekatma Parishar here on  Friday noon, State Vice President Sacchidanand Upasane denied that his party ever opposed the Chhattisgarh visit of Digvijay Singh as was alleged by the Congress leader.

Taking a cue from the verbal dual between Digvijay Singh and his bête noire former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi at Congress condolence meet on Thursday, Upasane said that Digvijay Singh criticised the ghastly incident but never said anything against Maoists which showed the diabolical attitude of Congress towards naxal issue.

He said that Congress ruled country as well as States most of the time during which Maoist insurgency bloomed and established its roots. Now the senior Congress leader, who himself ruled united Madhya Pradesh for 10 years is accusing BJP of taking help of Maoists to stay in power which is factually incorrect as well as highly objectionable. BJP demands that all these baseless charges levelled by Digvijay Singh against the party should be withdrawn saying that if the Congress ruled the country for 50-55 years on the basis of any nexus with the Maoists.

Talking about the issue of Salwa Judum, Upasane claimed that it was a self conceived movement of Tribal people and the State Government only backed it. He flayed Congress leaders for criticising Salwa Judum in the condolence meet of late Mahendra Karma, who was pioneer of the movement and whose son Dipak too has expressed his resolve to continue it, terming it as negation of martyrdom as well as contribution of late Karma in the welfare of Tribal society.

Upasane accused Digvijay Singh of demeaning Panchayat Raj by usurping all its

powers and thereby exploiting poor and tribal sections throughout his rule.

The BJP leader raised

serious questions about changes in dates of Parivartan Yatra, not informing the

same to security forces, thereafter releasing contradictory statements on the Darbha carnage, exerting undue pressure on Kawasi lakhma and preventing him from talking with media men etc.
