BJP attacks govt over return of people by trains

Staff Reporter

The Chhattisgarh unit of the BJP on Thursday accused the state government of running political propaganda over the Shramik Special Trains bringing back migrants stranded in other states and said the official claims were far removed from the ground realities.

BJP MLA and state spokesperson Shivratan Sharma said: “The government is claiming 1.60 lakh workers will return by Shramik trains. The actual number of stranded workers (from Chhattisgarh) is around 3 lakh. How can the limited special trains serve such a large stranded population?”

Citing a Railway Ministry advisory that one train can have around 1,200 workers, he said: “The state government should make it clear how many special trains have been sought from the Centre. If limited number of trains have been sought, then how much time will it take to bring back all the migrant workers from other states?”
