BJP’s objection to NYAY reflects its anti-poor mindset: Congress

Staff Reporter

Congress on Wednesday took strong exception to BJP leader and former Chhattisgarh minister Ajay Chandrakar’s criticism to the  Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY).

In a statement, Congress’s state general secretary and chairman communication wing Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said the BJP was in jittery since the announcement of NYAY by Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

He said the BJP was criticising the scheme that proposed to make direct cash transfer of Rs 72,000 annually in the account of poorest of the poor because the “so called nationalist party is a sympathiser of capitalists.”

“Basically the BJP is against the interest of poor farmers, labourers, small shop owners and hand cart pullers who were supposed to be benefitted by the scheme,” he claimed.

By announcing the scheme, the Congress president had won the hearts of the poor people and that’s why the BJP was making such statements to “hide their fear of shameful defeat in the upcoming general elections”, the Congress leaders aid.

Only because of this anti-poor mentality the BJP was rooted out from the state and was restricted to only 15 seats in 90-member state assembly, Trivedi added.

He also refuted the charges of Chandrakar that Congress was transporting liquor in government vehicles for distribution by its candidate ahead of elections.

“People of the state are witnessing everything,” he said, adding the Congress would win all the 11 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
