A nine-year-old male white tiger, Kishan, succumbed to cancer at the Maitri Bagh zoo in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, an official said on Wednesday.
The tiger died on Tuesday in the zoo at Bhilai, about 35 km away from Raipur.
Maitri Bagh is maintained by the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship unit of public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL).
Kishan's last rites were performed on Tuesday evening, he said.
Kishan was born to Sundar (tiger) and Kamala (tigress). Kamala gave birth to five cubs before her own death in 2016, the official said.
Of the five cubs, three were given to the Rajkot Zoo in Gujarat in exchange for a pair of lions. At present, the Bhilai zoo has five white tigers.
The zoo authority is planning to restart the breeding of white tigers, the official added.
