Beware of dubious finance firms: DGP

Staff Reporter

Chhattisgarh police have warned people of not falling prey to the lures of obnoxious non-banking finance companies who after coaxing people to invest in their entities, vanish from the scene when the time comes to return the money.

In an earnest appeal to masses, director general of Chhattisgarh police Ram Niwas asked the people not to let their hard earned money go in vain by falling in to the trap of these fake NBFCs. Instead, if someone finds such a finance company/ chit fund company active in his neighbourhood, the same should be immediately informed to the nearest Thana/ SDOP/CSP/ASP or Superintendent of Police.

If someone has already been cheated by such a company, he should file FIR in the respective police station as in a case of cheating by NBFCs actions are taken under the Prize, Chits and Money Circulation Scheme (Banning) Act 1978, Chit fund Act 1982 and sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

If the respective local police authority does not take cognisance of the complaint, then the complaint should directly be lodged wit the Crime Investigation department, Police Headquarters, Raipur as the state police were committed to protect the hard earned money of the citizens, Ram Niwas added.  Notably, a number of cases have come to the notice that some individual or group of people forms company and asks people to invest in it promising handsome returns, even double, triple to what it could earn in interest from a scheduled bank.

People fall prey to their lures without thinking that returning such profits was not possible in any condition. The investors come to the reality when these companies disappear as soon as the time comes to return the money, and thus feel cheated.
